With the holiday spirit in full force, it’s a great time to take a step back and examine what we’re thankful for over the past year. Maybe there was a job promotion, a new grandchild born into the family, or you moved into your dream home in Aberdeen, NC! Even if there have been tough times and experiences, there’s nothing like volunteering for a great cause to give everyone a bit of perspective. Here’s a great list of places to volunteer in the Sandhills community that could use your time all year long! It’s always a blessing to bless others.
FirstHealth of the Carolinas- Volunteer opportunities range from greeting patients and their families, to making floral deliveries to crocheting blankets for elderly patients.
Sandhills Farm to Table Cooperative- Passionate about eating local? Volunteer to be a packer to see where our local produce comes from. Bonus- you get a free gourmet lunch when you sign up to volunteer!
Keep Moore County Beautiful- Moore County is one of the most beautiful places in the state. (We may be a little biased, but that’s okay!) Work with the Keep Moore County Beautiful organization on various projects to keep our environment a clean, healthy, and gorgeous place to live, work, and play!
Sandhills/Moore Coalition for Human Care- Food and clothing are two of the most basic human needs that many people struggle to obtain. When you volunteer with the Sandhills/Moore Coalition for Human Care, you can help provide citizens of our county with these needs through the food pantry, clothing donation center, and other resources.
Sandhills Habitat for Humanity- There’s nothing quite like moving into your own home! Work side-by-side with other volunteers to create dream homes for families.
Sandhills Food Bank- The Sandhills Food Bank supplies families with nutritious meals all year long. You can donate food, money, or your time. Consider working with this organization, especially during this time of year when food takes a central part in celebrating the holiday season!
The Arc Moore County- The Arc of Moore County provides resources to parents with children with developmental disabilities. There are lots of volunteer opportunities with this unique and important organization.
Moore County Literacy Council- Did you know that 10% of Moore County residents do not have the literacy skills to be successful in day-to-day life? The Moore County Literacy Council aims to change that statistic!
The Boys and Girls Club of the Sandhills- Investing in the life of a child creates an amazing ripple effect! Consider partnering with the Boys and Girls Club to foster leadership and interpersonal skills of our area’s youth.
These are just a few of the many organizations to get involved in! We are proud to call the Sandhills home and want to better our community not only with our new available homes in Aberdeen, NC but also reaching out to those in need. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
